This presentation is aimed at building the historical perspective and establishing the sequence of events that has made the Taliban an international non-state actor in global politics by waging a war of terrorism against Pakistan and Afghanistan. It also draws linkages between Taliban extremism and the global politics of the Cold War era; particularly the overall role of participating powers. The presentation encompasses the motives behind Taliban attacks on the education sector of Pakistan and its consequences. In conclusion, it brings out the way forward for dealing with the ongoing issue in a larger global context with shared responsibilities, roles and limitations.
