Appointing Your Advisory Committee

Many of you are now in the process of having your Plan of Study Intereviews. Upon successfully completing the interview, you'll need to appoint your advisory committee. This process moved online a little over a year ago, but since not many have used it, I thought a little tutorial would be useful.

Once you have your committee members on board, you will need to go to the COAS Resources for Graduate Students website, which is also in the links list to your right.

Once there, click on Current Graduate Students. From there, click on Record Changes. Next, click on the third item in the bullet point list - Appointment of Advisory Committee-Apply Online. You will be prompted to login with your User ID and password.

To be honest, I'm not positive what happens from here, since I don't see exactly what you see, but I know you will be prompted to enter the network ID of each of your advisory committee members. (The network ID is the part before the @indiana.edu in an email address.) Do this, then there is almost certainly a submit button.

Once you've submitted the network IDs, emails will be sent to each member, asking them to accept or decline membership on the committee by replying to the email. I receive notification of each faculty response (or lack thereof), so can keep on top of anyone who's slow to reply.

If you want to go straight to the Graduate Student Record Changes page, click here.
